Hewlett NY Yellow Pages

Hewlett is a hamlet on the South Shore of Long Island and is mainly a residential suburb offering a quiet and comfy lifestyle for residents. The history of Hewlett begins when Samuel Wood built the Woodsburg Pavilion and constructed an expansion in 1870. The area was a recreational summer retreat for New Yorkers and with the expansion of the pavilion the Hewlett area began to grow. Frank G. and Margaret Holly opened the Holly Arms Hotel in Hewlett in 1890 which was frequented by such notables as Lillian Russell, Diamond Jim Brady, and Theodore Roosevelt. The hotel burned in 1926.

Students in Hewlett attend either Hewlett schools in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District or the Lynbrook Union Free School District. Within Hewlett is the Yeshiva of South Shore along with the high school, Mestivta Ateres Yaakov of Greater Long Island.

Residents and visitors the quaint restaurants, local businesses, and the many parks that dot the area include the 35 acre Grant Park.
